Surgery to reshape the nose is a very common plastic surgery procedure to modify the size of nose. The shape of the tip, the bridge, the nostrils, the root and the angle between the nose and the upper lip can also be changed. Sometimes breathing difficulties can be corrected at the same time.
The nose is the central feature of the face, many people are self-conscious of shape which they may regard as too big, too small or have some other feature which they dislike. The characteristics of the nose are inherited from parents and develop during adolescent years. They continue until the age of 16, when the nose stops growing. It is, therefore, unwise to operate before this age.

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as the nose job is a plastic surgery procedure for correcting and reconstructing the form, restoring the functions and aesthetically enhancing the shape of the nose due to nasal trauma, birth defect, respiratory impediment, or a failed primary rhinoplasty. Most patients ask to remove a bump, narrow nostril width, change the angle between the nose and the mouth, as well as correct injuries, congenital defects, or other problems that affect breathing, such as deviated nasal septum or a sinus condition.

In the surgeries; closed rhinoplasty and open rhinoplasty, a maxillofacial surgeon (jaw, face, and neck specialist), or a plastic surgeon creates a functional, aesthetic (Cosmetic), and facially proportionate nose by separating the nasal skin and the soft tissues from the osseo-cartilaginous nasal framework, correcting them as required for form and function, suturing the incisions, glue and applying either a package or a stent, or both, to immobilize the corrected nose to ensure the proper healing of the surgical incision.

Surgicial operations: Various materials are used for the additional framework such as bone, cartilage and range of materials which are safe and tolerated by the patient's body like silicone.

Post operative sequence:

  •  One can expect slight bruising and swelling on face which may take upto two weeks to settle.
  •   If a bone / cartilage graph is taken from another part of the body, there may be a small scar noticeable on the hip or chest (donor
    site.)

Risks:

  •  Infection
  •  Implant extrusion
  •  Graft absorption
  •  Need for second procedure
